Upgrade Your Mattress Today
Every once in a long while, we’ll need to upgrade our mattresses that we’ve come to love for many years. For some, the time to upgrade may be well overdue and they may not be getting the best night’s sleep or support from their long-time mattress. Even the best mattresses need to be upgraded or touched up after so many years of use.
Is It Time For an Upgrade?
It may be difficult to determine when exactly you need to update your mattress, but there are some questions you can ask yourself to help determine if you do. The biggest sign that it’s time for a new mattress is that it’s no longer comfortable to actually go to sleep each night or you find yourself waking up in pain most mornings. Ask yourself a few of these questions to get an idea if it’s time for a new mattress.
“Is the mattress nearing 10 years old?”
Most mattresses last anywhere from 5 to 10 years old, but the average lifespan of a mattress will vary widely depending on the brand, mattress type and material. If your mattress is nearly 10 years old, it is very likely you’ll need to upgrade in order to get an optimal night’s sleep.
“Does the mattress sag, feel lumpy, or show other signs of wear?”
No mattress can prevent natural wear from repeated use over the years. If you notice significant signs of wear, like sagging in certain areas, lumps in others, or if the mattress is physically starting to come apart, then it’s definitely time for a new mattress.
“Do you wake up with pain?”
Namely, if you wake up with back, neck, hip, or shoulder pain, you may want to seriously consider updating your current mattress. These are all signs that your mattress is no longer providing you with the support that you need for a healthy night’s sleep.
“Have you noticed that other beds feel more comfortable than your own, like those in hotels, at a friend/family member’s house, or at mattress stores?”
This is another tell-tale sign that it’s time for an upgrade. If your own bed is comparably less comfortable than other beds, your own bed may just be worn out after nearly a decade of use.

As of 12/30/2015, California state law requires retailers to collect an $11 recycling fee on each mattress and each box spring sold. (I.E. A recycling fee of $22 must be assessed for the purchase of one mattress with one box spring.) The amount of the fee was mandated by the state and is not set by individual retailers.
