WORK ON YOUR RESOLUTIONS IN YOUR SLEEP!

If your new year's resolutions include losing weight, being more productive, and having more energy to do the things you enjoy, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that you need only make one resolution: get better sleep!

Keeping your New Year's resolution every year is hard! Whether your goal is to lose weight, be more productive or live a healthier lifestyle, it seems just a few weeks after New Year's we find ourselves back in the same old routine. Well this year, if you make the resolution to buy a new mattress, you can take care of these three resolutions - in your sleep!

  1. Losing Weight - A study by the University of Chico found that sleep deprivation can drive desire for high calorie, high carbohydrate foods up by 45%! Why is that? When you deprive yourself of sleep, the hypothalamus in your brain activates two critical hormones, ghrelin and leptin; these two work as the "yin and yang" of hunger. When ghrelin levels are up, you feel hungry and when leptin levels are high, a message is sent to your brain that you're full. Now here's where they work against you and your diet. When you don't get enough sleep, ghrelin levels rise telling your body that you are hungry and leptin levels lower telling your body that you aren't full. This is a double whammy that causes you to overeat because your body isn't telling you you've had enough. A good mattress will help you get the quality sleep that you and your waistline deserve.
  2. Greater Work Productivity - Looking to get a promotion and big raise this year? It's time to hit the sack! The amount and quality of sleep you get every night has a big (we mean huge) effect on your energy levels, ability to concentrate, think creatively and ability to show up to work on time.
