What are the standard sizes of mattresses?

Do I need special sheets for my new mattress?

You will need special sheets if you are purchasing a very thick mattress with a thick pillow top. Sit'n Sleep offers a selection of high profile or deep pocket sheets that fit very well on these thicker mattresses. When selecting sheets, it is also important to keep in mind that your sheets are part of your sleep environment, therefore comfort, thickness and softness should be considered when making your sheet selection.

Do I need to buy a new box spring when buying a new mattress?

The box spring acts as the foundation of the bed. It provides support for the mattress by acting as a shock absorber. These two pieces were designed to compliment each other when working together as a set. Although there are several types of platform beds that do not use a box spring, pairing your new mattress with an old box spring is not recommended.

How often do I need to turn my new bed?

Your new mattress should be rotated every week for the first few months and each month thereafter. This pattern will allow you to get the most even wear and extend the life of your mattress.

Which is the best brand of mattress to buy?

At Sit'n Sleep, our trained Sleep Consultants assist each guest with purchasing the mattress that is best suited for them. We know that each person's sleep habits are unique, therefore by asking key questions, listening carefully and encouraging guests to try out various mattresses, our Sleep Consultants are able to pair anyone with the mattress that will give the best sleeping experience ever.

How long will a new mattress last?

While the industry standard is eight to ten years, mattresses should be evaluated regularly for comfort and quality. If you find yourself realizing that the quality of sleep that you are getting is not the same as it was six months earlier, it is time to get a new mattress. In addition, as we go through life, our lifestyles and bodies change. Your mattress should always be comfortable to get the best night's sleep possible.

Why do I need a mattress protector for my new bed?

Sit'n Sleep highly recommends protecting your new mattress purchase with a mattress proctector. Not only will it help extend the life of your new mattress, but will maximize the manufacturers' warranty. While the mattress protector can be removed and washed, your mattress cannot. Ask your Sleep Consultant about a mattress protector at the time of your purchase.

Will I need new pillows with my new mattress set?

Industry standards recommend that you replace your pillows every 1-2 years. Your mattress and pillows work together to provide you with good postural alignment. When replacing your mattress, you will need to evaluate if your old pillows still provide appropriate support with the new mattress set. A good way to judge this is to lie on the bed in the position you usually sleep in, and have another person see if your spine is in alignment (straight). You need to purchase a pillow that will bring your head and neck into alignment with the rest of your body. Ask your Sleep Consultant for more information on pillows during your next visit to Sit'n Sleep, as we carry a large selection.
