Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory Foam Mattress Selection
Since appearing on the market in the 1980s, memory foam has only gained more popularity. It’s easy to feel why – the soft foam molds to the body, resulting in comfort and support that feels like it was tailored specifically for you and your sleeping style. While memory foam has been used in pillows and mattress pads, a memory foam mattress has layers upon layers of memory foam that not only provides the ultimate comfort, but alleviates joint pressure for a better night’s sleep.
When selecting a memory foam mattress, it is important to remember all of the advantages of this type of mattress. Because the mattress is entirely made of memory foam, that means you will not have to deal with creaks and whines that could happen when you or your partner move around the bed. And because memory foam absorbs heat and pressure, you may not even feel your partner get out of bed, so you can sleep soundly through the night.
What Is Memory Foam?
Are you curious about this innovative sleep material? Memory foam was originally used by NASA in the 1970s for its airplane seats due to its sensitivity to pressure and temperature. Tempur-Pedic was the first mattress company to introduce memory foam mattresses to North America in 1992. The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Flex® Collection is a hybrid mattress that offers not only memory foam, but a response layer that responds 3 times faster to your movement so you will only experience comfort, support, and ease of movement while you sleep. Tempur-Pedic also offers their Contour and Cloud Luxe memory foam mattresses for you to choose from, with both lines having the SmartClimate System for cool-to-the-touch comfort and the EasyRefresh Top Covers for easy removal and washing. And because both of these mattress series have memory foam for their base layer, you can enjoy the support and comfort layers made with Temper-Pedics innovative material that adapts and supports each person’s individual sleep position.
And while Tempur-Pedic may have pioneered memory foam in the bedding industry, they have since inspired other bedding companies to research and develop ways to incorporate memory foam into their mattresses. One example is from Sherwood Bedding, whose Conforma Cool series has gel-infused memory foam mattresses that are temperature sensitive in order to allow more durability out of your mattress and breathability while you sleep. You’ll also find gel memory foam from Sealy, whose OptiCool Gel Memory Foam allows the mattress to be noticeably cooler due to being 12 times more effective at removing heat and keeping your body cool during a hot summer night.
Because memory foam conforms to your body, all you need to do is figure out what memory foam mattress you want! You can visit your local Sit ’n Sleep location or search through our memory foam mattresses online to discover the right mattress for you. The sooner you begin your search, the sooner you’ll experience the benefits of sleeping on a memory foam mattress.
As of 12/30/2015, California state law requires retailers to collect an $11 recycling fee on each mattress and each box spring sold. (I.E. A recycling fee of $22 must be assessed for the purchase of one mattress with one box spring.) The amount of the fee was mandated by the state and is not set by individual retailers.
