Sit 'n Sleep Donates Mattresses to Help Vets
Tempur-Pedic and Sit ‘n Sleep will be donating 51 twin mattresses to PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) in March 2015. The donation will be used by PATH to distribute to their homeless clients, including single parents and veterans, as they transition into long-term housing. This is the second consecutive year that Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic have partnered with PATH to provide mattresses to local families. “We’re thrilled to extend our commitment to PATH for the second year in a row,” says Larry Miller, CEO, Sit ’n Sleep. “We hope the donated mattresses will provide PATH families with a supportive and comfortable place to sleep as they start a new chapter in their lives.”
For over 30 years, PATH has worked to end homelessness for individuals, families, and communities by dedicating resources to help clients get back on their feet. However, even after permanent housing is established, some clients don’t have the means to buy proper mattresses and must resort to sleeping on air mattresses, sleeping bags, or even the floor. Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic will help PATH’s clients transition into new housing with the new mattresses. Everyone deserves to sleep with dignity and receive a good night’s sleep; these new mattresses will help families achieve both goals.
As of 12/30/2015, California state law requires retailers to collect an $11 recycling fee on each mattress and each box spring sold. (I.E. A recycling fee of $22 must be assessed for the purchase of one mattress with one box spring.) The amount of the fee was mandated by the state and is not set by individual retailers.
