ARE
DUST MITES
USING YOUR
MATTRESS
AS A BATHROOM?

Where do you think the millions of dust mites that live in your old mattress go to the bathroom?!

It’s not just gross, it’s unhealthy!

Do you Wake up in the Morning Itching, Wheezing and Sneezing?

Most likely it's because you've got unwelcome company living in your mattress. You may think you're getting your 40 winks alone or with your sleeping partner, but in the recesses of an older mattress, box spring and pillows, you are being joined by a happy family of millions of dust mites.

Your body heat and dead skin cells provide dust mites with the perfect home, one that keeps dust mites warm and well fed. The average adult sheds up to 1.5 grams of skin a day which is enough to feed one million dust mites!

Unfortunately, these critters are actually the cause of many indoor allergies in both children and adults alike.

So what can you do about it?

As we like to say, if it’s over 8, it’s time to replace! After eight years a mattress can double in weight from the accumulation of dead skin cells, body oils, dust mites and their droppings. If your mattress is over eight years old, it's definitely time for a new one.

Also, it’s important to have high quality mattress and pillow protectors to prevent the dust mites from entering the warm, cozy confines of your mattress.

Flush those dust mites out of your life for good!

A Few Facts about Dust Mites

  • A dust mite measures only about one-quarter to one-third of a millimeter. They are too small to see with your eyes alone.
  • Under a microscope, they look like white bugs. They have eight legs, so they are not insects, but arthropods, like spiders.
  • Dust mites thrive in temperatures of 68 to 77 degrees and love humidity levels of around 70 to 80 percent.
  • There are at least 13 species of mites
  • They will die with low humidity or extreme temperatures but their dead bodies and waste they leave behind can still cause allergic reactions.
  • A doctor can diagnose a dust mite allergy by doing a Skin Prick Test or blood test.
